"2100: A novel born from a joke, but which questions our future"

When I started writing the book, I didn't have anything specific in mind. I completely let my imagination run wild. But very quickly, it became clear that it had its source in the current world. My imagination isn't so overflowing that I invent fantastical worlds. No, it stems from our current reality, the world we live in, and therefore, the consequences that could result from it.

The book therefore reflects, from my initial idea - a little reminder, it was a joke, not a real idea to write - the world in which I imagine us living later.

Very quickly, the title came to my mind: 2099. Why? I don't know. I just found it easy to remember and especially impactful, it's the last year of the century. We all remember the year 1999. The announced global bug 😊. The plot must therefore have taken place that year.

2100

This novel is also not the technological world as I imagine it in the future. At least, I think it will be much more advanced than in my novel. I didn't dwell on that too much, even if details hint at it. The main thread very quickly shifted to a human story. I believe—in fact, I'm sure of it now—that it was important to me that a large number of readers identify with my story.

It was only natural that my story focused on a family, living normally — or almost — with its values, its daily life and its choices.

The role of the father, the place of women, and family are all very present in this book. I hope that you and your family will find something in it... but in a few decades.

I also discuss the consequences of what we are currently experiencing, and experienced recently. From the pandemic in the early 2020s, to the war in Europe between Ukraine and Russia, to the energy transition, which is at the heart of many current political discussions.

2035…a Europe where only electric cars will circulate: that's for tomorrow. I go further. What will the role of energy be in 2100? How will it be accessible, for whom, and at what price?

So, what are the consequences of all these current issues in 2099? That's what you'll discover by reading my novel.

My book was born from a simple question, intended as a joke. But above all, it became a personal challenge...to create a book myself based on this joke.

To create a plausible world, based on current experiences. A world that isn't so imaginary, a world where we could all—you and I—live in 74 years.
